Behavior analysis is a widely applied science that impacts a variety of populations. However, behavior analysis is often seen as a science that is only applied to the Autism population. So, what can behavior analysis do for the world? In this talk, Patrick O’Leary discusses how behavior analysis can vary in its application and impact across a variety of topics including business, sexuality, and addiction among others.

RBTs handle a tremendous amount of work on a day to day basis. Some days are easier than others, but sometimes our days can be quite disorganized. In this talk, Dr. Shane T. Spiker offers some tips and tricks on how to successfully prepare for a session that builds rapport, honors assent, and establishes effective practices as an RBT working in the field.

Training is a large part of the overall RBT responsibilities in sessions. RBTs may be training staff members or caregivers on how to implement behavior programming. If we are going to spend time providing training and guidance, however, we want to ensure that we are using the most effective methods to do so. In this talk, Dr. Shane T. Spiker will provide an in-depth look at how we can use behavioral skills training (BST) to enhance our training practices.

Preferences are not always reinforcers. It’s really quite that simple. But sometimes, when we’re working in a treatment spaces, we lose sight of the impact of preferences and reinforcers on a learner or caregivers behavior. In this talk, Patrick O’Leary will spend some time talking about the mechanisms that lead to behavior change through the lens of preferences, reinforcers, and changes in motivation.

The BACB recently announced that RBTs will be required to collect ongoing professional development for their certifications, eliminating competency assessment requirements beginning January 1, 2026. In this talk, Dr. Shane T. Spiker will discuss some of those changes and provide brief strategies for ensuring that RBTs are able to meet those new standards and have the most current information regarding BACB standards.
